Summer West Yorkshire

Meet Summer, a 5 year old, entire bitch who is looking for a foster or forever home.
Summer came to us from the stray pound in a sorry state with a matted coat and skin infections, but as you can see from the photo, some TLC and grooming has seen this right - she is now feeling and looking fine, and her lovely character is beginning to come out.

A bit of digging into Summer's history has revealed she has lived in a home before, and has also lived outside with a male German shepherd. Whilst in kennels with us, Summer has greatly enjoyed the company of other male German shepherds. She enjoys a run and a play with the other dogs, then will settle for a lie down together. She would be happiest homed with another large, male dog, as she seems to really take confidence from this and enjoys being able to socialise. She is not suitable to live with little dogs or with cats.

Summer can present as quite anxious/vocal initially, we have noticed she often just wants to make sure she is in the middle of the humans/dogs, at which point she will happily settle down. She loves to be around humans, and needs an owner/ family with the patience to give her stability and build her confidence. She can be vocal initially when being left, but does settle.

Out on a walk, Summer can be vocal initially, but she soon settles into the walk. She will bark when she sees another dog, however, she recently attended Shepfest with GSDR volunteers, and coped well on her lead around so many other large dogs, enjoying being around some of the calmer German Shepherds. She has so much potential, and is a lovely dog to be around, she now needs an experienced, quiet home where she can really settle in and work out where to put herself!
