Ruby - Bedfordshire

Ruby is an outstanding dog.

She is young and yet beautifully behaved and very well trained. Her owner adores her and is heartbroken that she has come to the decision to rehome. So why is this? The only reason is that Ruby lives in a rural location and she has chased sheep. This was a disaster as there was damage to the sheep. The matter was dealt with honourably but Ruby is now known, and is at risk should she succumb again.

Of course there are GSDs who would not do this. There are exceptions to every rule. However, most would. And it is said that Ruby would come off chasing,  if her owner were there to give her the command. The unfortunate thing is that Ruby and her sister are used to running loose in the farm acreage and her owner cannot always be present. The dogs are unsupervised within their boundary. It was in such a circumstance that the chasing episode took place.

In any other environment, we think that Ruby would be a near perfect dog. She is calm and affectionate, responsive to commands and very obedient. She is exceptionally well trained and is a joy to handle. Our assessor described her as 'perfect' to walk both on and off lead. It is even claimed that she would be easy to handle around livestock in the presence of an owner. Perhaps this is only something that should be tested on lead, however.

Ruby is a very unusual dog for us to come across. All the work has been done with her and all that any new owner would have to do is to live up to her and not allow her standards to slip. Are you up to coping with this?
