Murphy-Lincoln

Meet Murphy a 6 year old  who is looking for a new home through no fault of his own.

Murphy is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and has a beautiful long sable coat.

Murphy has previously lived happily with two older children and also shared his home with a female dog for around two years. Following a change in living circumstances, Murphy is now living in a different home with children and a cat and unfortunately he is struggling to settle and is no longer happy in his current environment.

Murphy has lunged and nipping at older children when they entered the house. Because of this, Murphy needs an experienced home where his needs and boundaries can be properly managed.

Murphy is currently living with a cat, but he wants to chase the cat, meaning the cat is having to live separately upstairs. For this reason, we feel Murphy would be best suited to a home without cats.

Murphy can bark excessively at strangers and will need an owner who understands German Shepherd behaviour and is confident managing this. When left at home he does not chew and he travels well in the car.

He is fully housetrained and will let you know when he needs to go outside to toilet.

Murphy is generally okay at the vets, provided there are no other dogs or cats around.

He currently has a fatty lump on his rear right foot. This has been examined by a vet and has been confirmed as non-cancerous.

Our volunteer joined Murphy and his owner for a walk and found that Murphy did not pull on the lead. He can however bark at other dogs while out walking. His current owner manages this by creating distance and crossing the road when other dogs or people are approaching.

Murphy’s recall is currently very poor, so he will need further recall training and should be kept securely on lead or a suitable long line while this is worked on.

Murphy needs an experienced and confident German Shepherd owner who understands the breed and can provide clear, consistent boundaries. He will need ongoing training and an owner who is prepared to put time and effort into helping him feel secure and make good choices.

Murphy has lots of potential in the right environment. Our volunteer believes that with an experienced home willing to put in the work Murphy can thrive.
