Lulu is a special girl who needs a very special home. Prior to coming to the rescue, her owner had booked her into the vets to be put to sleep because of her skin allergies. Lulu's fosterer has worked hard to get Lulu into this condition but keeping her like that will be a challenge.

Lulu was Born on 15th September 2007. Lulu is KC registered and her Pedigree name is Helabela Madam Rochas. Lulu is a Black and Tan Short Coat Bitch. Her owners paid £1500.00 for her from a KC registered breeder.

At the age of 4 months, we have been advised by her owners that Lulu started the signs of Alopecia and skin problems, and her owners battled with this till December 2010 when they had a set of biopsies carried out on her skin. Lulu was then diagnosed with Chronic Atopic Dermatitis with secondary mange mite infection.

Lulu is allergic to Pork, Duck, Lamb, Beef, Corn and to House dust mites and storage mites. Lulu was started on Atopica oral capsules and if the response to the medication is good we hope to wean her on to a long-term maintenance dose.

Lulu also requires a monthly application of Advocate to prevent recurrence of mite infection. Lulu is also prone to ear infections, this is a result of her dermatological condition, hopefully, the Atopica will reduce the frequency of these but it will be necessary from time to time to treat her with a course of topical antibiotic ear preparations. Lulu is also recommended to have weekly baths with Malasab shampoo. Lulu has to be fed on a hypoallergenic diet long term, without any titbits, in order to help her skin condition.

Lulu was prone to false pregnancies and was aggressive when in season. Since Lulu has come into rescue we have had her spayed, which was recommended by the vet who diagnosed her condition. Lulu came into German Shepherd Rescue on the 29th of March, 2011 as her owners could not cope with her condition and costs involved for her treatment.

GSD Rescue has had Lulu in a foster home for 12 months and has managed to get her condition under control with a strict diet of ?sh with potatoes or tapioca. We also add a variety of oily ?sh to her complete dog food, and supplements such as star?ower oil capsules and Viacutan high gamma linolenic acid supplement. Lulu loves apples and pineapple, and most veg. Lulu does not live in the main residence but has a centrally heated room with a tiled ?oor and walls which we feel is helping reduce dust mite allergy. It has been trial and error with Lulu in foster as we have tried to wean her off her medication in the hope that we could control her condition completely by diet. The foster home has only had a minor ear problem and the weekly baths have not had to be carried out.

Lulu is a good sized GSD girl and is quite a character, she can be quite intimidating on ?rst meeting people or a really big puppy bouncing around once she gets to know you. Lulu's favourite pastime is catching ?ies around the bushes and trees in the garden. Lulu is good with male and female dogs, does ?nd small ones a bit worrying, but has been ?ne with a GSD puppy, loves to play ball.

Lulu is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.
