LOUIE - Bedfordshire

LOVELY LOUIE

Louie came to his present owner unexpectedly and, as a temporary arrangement, when he was younger. He is still less than one year of age, and he continues to grow. His current owner adores him and would love to keep him, but he is already too much for her. She is a lady in her seventies. Not unnaturally, Louie is a bouncy pup, and she really cannot cope with him. She lives with him very amicably in the home (where he is definitely the alpha male) but he has had her over when outside.

This is a situation that could never have been expected to work. Louie is already huge and will grow even more. He is aware of his size and has begun to use it. Caucasians do not have the same innate desire of the GSD to please. But they can be trained, although it needs a strong experienced owner, and this lady could never be that. Louie objected to our male assessor and so he growled and attacked him. He was fine with his lady companion. He is not used to men in the house, and he is beginning to assert his dominance and guarding instincts.

When out, he pulls on the lead and wants to reach other dogs. We are told that he is friendly and so this might mean that he wants to play. We have also been told that he is good with children and cats, but we could not verify this. In any event because of his sheer size, he should not be in a home with any young child.

Louie is a lovely boy, and our male assessor would have happily taken him on, if he had had the facilities. Louie needs a rural home where he has space to roam and run freely. His owner says that he is very active and playful. She has a large garden, but she thinks he needs more space than she can provide.

Undoubtedly Louie is showing signs of dominance, which go unchallenged at the moment. He needs an experienced owner who can take this giant pup in hand and establish boundaries. As yet there is no innate aggression, just the guarding that is so typical of the breed. This boy needs a home where he will have space and leadership. He needs access to the outside and more to keep him entertained and able to live the life of a Caucasian rather than a lap dog.

Are you able to take advantage of this rare opportunity to elicit all that this baby promises?
