DUKE the giant pup
Would you just look at this adorable cuddle monster and he is still a pup! He looks as though butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, Ha! Don't be fooled. There is no malice in him, but Duke is already a big boy and he will grow more. Sadly, he has learned that he can get his own way and push boundaries. He is being rehomed now, for the second time, for this reason. He has proved too much for two families already.
Duke is adorable, but he is not for the faint hearted. He puppy mouths still and, by now at his size, it hurts. He has learned to use his body weight to barge through, when trying to be restrained, and his recall definitely needs work. He was said to be good with other dogs, at one time, but then along came Covid and he has missed puppy socialization. He is capable of learning, however. In less than a month, from being almost uncontrollable, he has learned to walk acceptably on lead. This will need reinforcement, and all of his training, to be fair, is a work in progress. But it shows that he can change and that he is willing to listen
All of Duke's traits are the typical things that pups do. There is nothing that a confident experienced owner could not cope with, in any normal size GSD. But Duke is a giant dog. As well as being partially untrained, he is very strong and has learned to utilize this.
So, we are looking for a physically strong owner who is relaxed, confident and experienced. He is currently living with teenagers in the house. Although you would say that he is 'good with children' this has not worked. He needs clear commands, a simple regime and consistency - difficult to achieve with teenagers around. So we would ask for a child free home also. Duke would thrive in a country environment with lots of time outside just meandering around and burning off energy in a spacious garden. He needs a single owner, or a couple, who are both experienced and not easily daunted and with some physical heft.
There is no doubt, if you could cope, that Duke would make the most impressive and adorably cuddlesome family member.
