Chained Puppy

Chained up day and night at 12 weeks old

Sept 2007. We have been informed that puppy has been liberated and is now safe.

Remember Ted our mascot who was rescued at 12 weeks old after being sold as a guard dog? The same family have been sold another puppy by yet another unscrupulous breeder. He will never get any hugs or cuddles - their religion dictates that dogs are dirty/unclean!

This poor little puppy - we are powerless to help!

Update 1/8/07. Puppy has grown now but he is still tethered on a chain just a few feet long. His back legs look weak because he cannot exercise. The chain appears to be shorter, no doubt to keep him away from the door! He has learnt now that his cries are ignored and sits miserably in his prison - alone most of the time.

The RSPCA have been alerted several times to this poor puppy's plight and have done nothing!!

This poor little mite has been sold to a family whose religion regards dogs as dirty/unclean. He is being kept permanently outside in a child's wooden play house. He is being kept as a guard dog!

We contacted Bury council - environmental health. This is their response to our email.

Have you spoken to the RSPCA about this puppy, and your concerns. If so I would welcome their comments made to you. Our Dog warden takes a different view than you on the five freedoms..Gary Brown

Subject: The owner falls foul of the new Animal Welfare Act
See DEFRA site

What does the new law do?

It makes owners and keepers responsible for ensuring that the welfare needs of their animals are met. These include the need:

For a suitable environment (place to live)
For a suitable diet
To exhibit normal behaviour patterns
To be housed with, or apart from, other animals (if applicable) To be protected from pain, injury, suffering and disease

The five freedoms!!

1. Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour - doubtful that he is receiving a proper balanced diet for a large breed dog.

2. Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area. He is housed in a childrens wooden play house.

3. Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - 12 weeks and exposed to the elements. Doubt he is even vaccinated, the last one they had wasn't

4. Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour - by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind. Chaining up a 12 week old puppy does not allow for normal behaviour and constitutes mental cruelty

5. Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering. Taken from it's mother, chained up and left on it's own most of the time - you don't think that is stressful?

The puppy spends most of the day and night chained up!

The two youngest members of the family that have him are the only ones that will touch him. How long will that last?

Can you imagine how lonely this poor little puppy is and the problems that he will face as he begins to grow. It is doubtful that he will ever be walked and he will spend his life chained up in a small back garden.

This is cruel and not the way to treat a young german shepherd

This puppy is in the north west.
