Casper is only 14th months old and already had 3 homes prior to coming into our care. He was heading for the stray kennels when we were asked if we could take him.
Whilst in kennels Casper has been a lovely friendly dog around people. He is vocal around other dogs especially when on the lead, although has been fine off lead with other calm dogs.
Casper needs a job, he will not do well in a normal pet home he will tip you over the edge. However if you are very experienced in handling and working a dog then I can also see this would work. Once on a lead Casper can be very protective so the new owner/handler will need to know how to correctly channel this behaviour.
He’s not for the faint hearted, he’s as strong as a bull and if he sees something moving when outside you will need all your strength to hold onto him. He’s very high prey drive and obsessed with any article. You can play with him all day long he rarely gets bored.
The prison service were very keen to take Casper, although he’s only 14 months they would have taken their time with him until the next handlers course, but this young dog was afraid of the 3 flights of stairs in the prison (he had a walk round for a few days) these are stairs that you can see down so a lot to ask of a young dog and quiet rightly they didn’t push him so he came straight back to us. Still a working home is a must for this bright and very enthusiastic dog.
