BUDDY: OUR SHORTY SHEP
We don't know much about Buddy's history, except that we have pictures of him being rescued from the terrible Babeni shelter in Romania. His eyes were wide with terror. He was petrified and completely passive in the arms of his rescuers. Buddy was lifted by the wonderful 'Every Life Counts' rescue and his journey to the UK was funded by Rocco's Rescue. He was so terrified that I assumed that he would take a long time to settle at the rescue but he was ready to be UK bound in a relatively short time. This journey is traumatising for any dog, and again, I expected him to be paralysed with fear. He came to foster with a very experienced handler, now in Hull. Again, his carer said that he was nervous, but he adapted to life in a house very quickly. He is a timid boy but he is resilient. He was helped here because he gained confidence from the resident canine, a small JRT bitch.
It took Buddy about twenty four hours to see the benefits of his new home. At first he slept on the hard floor but then discovered the dog beds and there are pics of him trying all of them - even the small one for his miniature companion. He then went on to discover the couch and he was thoroughly at home, then, very quickly. He is still timid with any new experience and shy of new people. His foster carer has well inducted him into the UK lifestyle though. He is housetrained, likes going for walks now and is gaining confidence in all aspects of UK living . His particular favourites are the plentiful food supplies and tummy rubs. He is food oriented and very affectionate. He is described as 'gentle and placid' and we think he could live with older children, although he has not been tested as such.
We call him our 'shorty shep' because he is a perfect good looking GSD, but in miniature. He is only the size of a spaniel. I never thought the day would come when I could say that I am writing about a dog without issues - but he is the one exception to the norm. Buddy is very easy to handle and should be suitable for anyone who is getting older or who has health or confidence issues. In short, he is a little darling.
