Young Blue is a German Shepherd cross of about 18 months whois entire vacciated and microchipped
Sadly the owners health is declining and they feel unable to give Blue what he needs and deserves.
He has a shiny coat, and looks healthy. He is a lovely soft approachable dog in the home, given that he has had few boundaries set.
He has not lived with children, so we would only consider older children who have an understanding of the breed.
He is said to be fine with other dogs but is probably iundersocialised and is a no to cats.
Blue has never had effective training - although a trainer did visit. The volunteers guess is the owner decided an approach of giving the dog love and affection was right and the trainer gave up. As a result this is a delayed version of a COVID dog. Reactive to anything new - whether a car, neighbours or a squirrel. He was up on two legs on first sight of a squirrel and while dogs were not met on a walk, I am told this is a typical level or reactivity. He reacted to a group having a party on a communal lawn - simply inexperienced and confused in my view.
The male owner is not well looking and has no control of Blue on the lead - and makes no attempt to do anything but hold on. Blue pulls left then right in a zig-zagging walk. Strong and unpredictable therefore rather than pulling in one determined direction. Blue has not been walked for some 4 weeks since injuring his front leg. Consequently he was excited to be out. He did not limp - but I can see how he may put unusual strain on his legs with his constant change of direction. He will need to learn to walk properly on a lead, gentle management to build muscles
A stunning looking young man Blue is great in the home. He is not a barker, is very affectionate and has lived with another dog as a youngster in a pretty confined home. He has been in this home for about a year - and sadly the owners are not fit enough to walk him properly, or keep him stimulated. As a result he has not been properly socialised beyond the family and the neighbours doberman - -and reacts to everything when outside. He needs a new home urgently where appropriate boundaries and exercise regimes will be developed - and an urgent reset of all this training.
Can you offer this lad a chance ?
