BLAZE - LONDON

Blaze is a gorgeous boy whio is full of character. The volunteer described him as a "working" shepherd. He is a fast moving boy with an active mind and would suit an experienced handler as he is a fantastic example of this lovely breed.

Blaze is a four year old black German shepherd. He is neutered. He has benefitted from training, mostly dealing with his reactivity and anxiety.

Blaze is house trained and can be kept in the house by himself for 4 hours without being destructive.

He is relatively active and loves nothing more than being off lead in open parks and playing with his frisbee and ball.

He has good recall but does have a tendency to go deaf when looking for a muddy puddle to bathe in or when tired.

He is good with dogs of all sizes, when off lead. He loves being chased by dogs of all sizes. He was previously unsocialised but he now goes to daycare twice a week with all sizes and types of dogs and excels there. He can sometimes chase a new dog quite hard, so his owners try to ensure that he only plays with dogs that he knows.

He is reactive on lead but this can be managed more so in a park with a treat. It can be a little more challenging on narrow street pavements but he generally can be distracted by a treat if he is in a calm state. He tends to be more reactive closer to his home, so this may ju

Blaze takes confidence in people from other dogs. He will offer affection on his own terms, he loves a bum scratch and a chin scratch. He is generally full of beans in the morning and afternoon but likes to wind down by himself in the evening and will come to you if he wants affection. His day consists of walks, playing with his kong and naps.

He is very food motivated and is partial to an odd counter surf. When over excited, he can sometimes steal a shoe or a loose item, he will then give these up for a treat. If you do not remove the item quickly from him, he can then resource guard it but, again, he will give it up for a treat and has not resourced guard for sometime but just something to be mindful of.

Blaze will bark quite a lot at a new person entering the house, especially when the door bell is rung, but will generally come around to the new person within a few minutes, with some play or treats. Generally, when new visitors come around, he is initially in the garden, whilst they come in to the house and then introduced to them outside. He tends to deal better with meeting new people away from the home and generally warms to people with other dogs, very quickly.

Blaze travels in the car quite a lot but he can be anxious and make a racket when he is excited or nervous. For example, he will whine most of the way to the park but he will be quiet, when returning.

Blaze does not like the vets and is muzzled if he needs to go.

It is unlikely that he will be good in a home with young children. He does well with dog savvy people and adults but has previously not responded well to children in the home.

Blaze will respond positively in a home with owners who are savvy of the breed and would benefit being with another dog. He would require owners who could offer him a moderately active lifestyle. He can be a cheeky chappie who likes to have the last word, he sometimes requires some firm boundaries and management.
