Update as Bess is now in foster.
Bess has been a much-loved companion since she was eight-weeks however, now at three years’ old her human’s ill health meant he had to make the heartbreaking decision to find this beautiful girl a new forever home.
When Bess was first assessed by our GSDR volunteer, she was strong on the lead to start with on her walk through sheer excitement (she hadn’t been walked regularly for some time) then settled nicely and was very good off-lead, not wandering far, just having a good sniff. If it wasn’t for Bess continually barking at the volunteers’ husband, they would have fostered her straight away. She ignored people and ignored a dog off lead at the far side of the park.
One month later and Bess has settled into her foster home after initial introductions, a welcome bark and a very waggy tail from this lovely girl. We hear that whilst she is generally good with people, she can be a little unsure of strangers so may just need a minute to settle. She has grown-up beingaround her owner’s grandchildren, so can be rehomed with older children.
Bess hadn’t mixed with other dogs, and she wasn’t keen on one of two dogs next door who she used to fence-run with, but now in foster she was slowly introduced to the resident GSDX who is an elderly but very laid back boy, and they now play happily umpteen times a day. On walks Bess has ignored other dogs, though we understand she doesn’t like dogs in her face – fair enough!
Whilst she was given time to decompress in her foster home, she learnt to play in the garden and now absolutely lovesrunning around with her ball on a rope, and the occasional game of football.
Bess is perfect travelling in the car and a perfect houseguesttoo – she spends her days currently with foster mom and GSDX in the home-office and whilst initially she slept downstairs, Bess now sleeps upstairs too. She loves being in company but is well behaved when left to her own devices. Bess is also now crate trained and likes to take herself into the open crate to lie on the dog-bed there.
She is a long-haired GSD with a glossy coat that feels like silk – she’s happy to be groomed though wasn’t keen on her tail, legs or feet touching to start with, and when she visited a dog grooming salon she was the pawfect client!
Bess is a sweet, affectionate girl who whilst heartbroken to start with, settled into foster well and will be an exceptional companion for her new forever humans.
Bess is a beautiful three year old girl looking for a new home as her current owner's ill health is sadly preventing them from walking Bess and giving her the attention that she needs.
Our volunteer went to meet Bess and after an initial bark, Bess was happy to take strokes and make a new friend. She's generally very good with people but can be a little unsure of strangers so her new owners might need to give a minute to settle and make sure not to overwhelm her. Our volunteer was going to take her into foster as her owner is starting his treatment next week but when she came back a few days later with her husband, Bess was very vocal. They took her for a walk but still she would not settle. She has been with her current owner since being a pup and will need time to adjust to her new life.
Bess is used to being around her owner 's grandchildren so can be rehomed with older children.
Our volunteer took her for a walk and she was a little strong initially but soon calmed down. She is currently not being walked so she was just excited. Bess didn't react to people when out on the walk and was very good off lead. She likes to sniff things and never goes too far. She saw a dog in the distance and wasn't bothered, although we were told she is not keen on the neighbour's dog. Bess has never lived with another dog so she might be happier as an only dog or with a calm dog after careful introductions.
This lovely girl is very good in the house and is used to being left for short periods of time. She is an easy going dog who will be happy with company and a daily walk with her new human.
