Arlo came into foster with GSDR when he was abput 3 months. He had been bought by a young lad who really didn't have the time or knowledge for a young GSD. A small rescue took him in but they could not find a suitale placement which is when GSDR stepped in.
On arrival Arlo was friendly and relaxed in the home environment with humans. In the outside world he was a dinosaur.
Slowly the foster home has worked with Arlo and he has come on in leaps and bounds but at 6 months old there is still a lot of work needed to make him into that perfect companion.
Arlo is vaccinated, microchipped but not neutered as he is too young.
Arlo was excited to see the volunteer and did jump up but he was gentle and sweet natured. Within half an hour his playful p;uppy behaviours began to show.... brininging a ball.... chewing the paperwork and gently grabbing arms and hands for attention.
He will chase birds in the garden and bark at the neighbouring dogs, always having to have the last word. His foster carer has been working hard with this and rewarding when he is quiet .
Out walking he wants to pull amd when a trigger is in sight.... he pulls harder and barks louder and is definitley more stressed. When the volunteer took the lead he snapped out of his reaction quite quickly and was walked at a quicker pace. He has a lot to learn and we think will benefit from a strong confident handler. He is not a strong puller at pace but there is still work to do. Out of the home he has little interest in balls and treats once another dog is in view... not untypical challenge for a boy of his age.
He is far more reactive on lead than off lead. A sensitive soul who picks up an anxiety and feeds off it. Arlo was more chilled on the return journey home until a caxt was seen and then a man without a dog..... heightened stress gave the same reactive response.
He does not react to traffic or bikes any more.
Arlo is a sweet boy just starting out his journey to adulthood. He has not had the best start in life but is slowly learning that therer are good people on the world. He would now benefit from finding his forever home with someone pohysically strong who can further build his confidence and socialsiation in the outside world. Arlo accepts boundaries in the home and has settled well in a calm environment.
At a mere 6 months old he is not the finished article but is much easier than most of the dogs coming into rescue.
