Meet Apollo
Apollo is a 2-year-old entire male who is looking for a new home with an experienced owner who can provide him with clear, confident guidance, consistency and ongoing training. He would benefit from going back to basics with his training to help him reach his full potential.
Apollo came into our care following an incident involving a child in his previous home. He had lived with the child for two years without any previous issues. The incident occurred when the child attempted to take a bone away from Apollo, and Apollo reacted by nipping. The nip did not break the skin and no medical treatment was required.
When one of our volunteers visited Apollo for his initial home assessment, he was wearing a muzzle and was kept on a lead. He barked when the volunteer first arrived, but his tail was wagging throughout and he was happy to be stroked. Apollo can be protective of his family, so he needs an experienced owner who understands the importance of appropriate management and boundaries.
Since coming into kennels, Apollo has made some lovely progress. He was understandably very nervous at first, but he has gradually started to settle and show more of his personality. He can still be nervous when meeting new people, but once he realises they are a friend, he soon comes around and loves having a fuss.
Apollo had never previously lived with other dogs or cats. However, he now shares a kennel with another of our rescue dogs, Duke, who is also a nervous boy. Apollo and Duke sleep together and are exercised together in the paddock without any issues. They are fed separately as a sensible precaution.
Apollo came into our care very underweight, but we are pleased to say that he has since gained weight and is doing well.
Apollo would be best suited to an experienced home with older children only. He could potentially live with another larger dog, subject to successful meetings and slow, careful introductions.
Apollo does pull on the lead, so his new owner will need to continue working on his lead manners and general training. He can be left alone for short periods and does suffer from travel sickness on longer journeys.
Apollo is microchipped and vaccinated and is due to be neutered.
Apollo has plenty of potential in the right home. He needs someone who is prepared to give him the time, patience, structure and consistency he needs to feel secure and continue building his confidence.
In return, Apollo has all the makings of a loyal, affectionate and rewarding companion.
