Amber Storm Older Dogs

Amber and Storm

In January this year, we were asked to help rehome 2 ex-guard dogs Amber 10years old and Storm 8 years old.

We knew that it would be a difficult task to try and rehome two dogs that would be seen as old and to make matters worse, they had been kept for guarding so were not used to a home environment. They were not in great condition but turned out to be very friendly - not what you would expect of guard dogs.

Unfortunately, we had no interest and then on 11th Feb 2007 we received this email from their owner:

'Hi have not heard from your colleague after his assessment visit, we have tried and failed to find them alternative homes, have now had to book them into **** vets to be destroyed on Thursday at 3.30 pm thanks for trying regards m*** h*****'. Nice eh?

"How Could You?" should bring tears to your eyes. It is very sad fact of life that many faithful pets have become disposable items and will be discarded, no longer required. Many of these will die unwanted, unloved and alone having spent the last few days, weeks or months in a filthy dank dirty kennel. Their final reward - a lethal injection!!

We couldn't let that happen so we arranged to put them into a kennel - not ideal but at least they would be safe.

We were getting really worried that we would never rehome these dogs - there was just too much to go against them.

Little did we know that a wonderful lady called Allison had been following the story about Amber and Storm. She knew too that Amber and Storm would be overlooked for younger models, so she contacted us to say she couldn't bear to think of these 2 not having a nice loving home and she agreed to take them.

This picture really does paint a thousand words

This picture was taken just 24 hours after Amber and Storm reached their forever home. Amber and Storm are lucky dogs to have found Allison.

Amber has been found to have tumours but we hope that with the treatment she can enjoy a few happy years in her new home with her new friends.

Poor Archie wasn't quite so lucky. His story highlights the plight of older dogs

We always have older dogs like Amber and Storm looking for a nice home. Please don't overlook a dog because of age; the older ones have so much to give.
