Jerry is 4 years old vaccinated microchipped and castrated.
He is sadly looking for a new home as his current owner is in failing health and realises that Jerry now needs more than she can offer.
Jerry is an impressive large boy, with a shiny coat, a floppy ear, and a playful personality. He is a healthy, but unfit, 40kg puppy. Bouncy, with few manners, jumpy at visitors, and little training - but in spite of all that a delightful dog.
The smallish home is full of belongings - but Jerry has room alongside the owner and her three kids. Each room is separated so it is clear that Jerry has time and space to himself to stop him bothering the family when necessary. The owner has been ill and has recently completed chemo. Jerry has been left for longer periods and has now become unreliable and unpredictable with his toileting. This is creating a real problem with the owner’s son who has learning difficulties and is the one who has to clear up after the dog.
The owner is a kind, polite individual - who was left with three kids and three dogs when her husband walked out. He wanted the dogs originally, but did very little beyond walks in the early days. She therefore did most of the training - though is not strong enough - and stopped attending and walking the dog after about a year.
As a result Jerry remains puppy like in his behaviours. He has not been walked for 3 years and the only exercise is in a relatively small garden. Given all this he is a well adjusted but poorly socialised dog. He plays normally. Does not like aerosol sprays, or the vets.
On our walk he got very excited - and then walked pretty normally. Not under the volunteers control at all, but no real pulling as he just does not know what to do. Just random puppy like walking - interested in everything. We did not meet a dog - but he reacted to the barks of dogs in their homes as we passed. He would in the volunteers view wish to play with other dogs. So there is hope.
In summary - Jerry needs a new home as his owner is not well enough to walk or care for him. He has not been walked for 3 years, spending most of his time in the home with its small garden as his only exercise. He has lived successfully with two other dogs, and with a young family.
He is playful, and very ‘puppy like’ in his behaviour. He shows no sign of guarding behaviour, and considering his limited exposure to life is well-balanced.
Jerry is a dog with enormous potential for an adopter who is willing to put in effort and/or time to introduce this dog to a normal life.
