Skye - Cambridgeshire

Update August 2019 - Skye has been rehomed

Poor Skye.

Skye is not leading the life that her owner would wish for her. She is a large bitch and she is basically untrained and so cannot be walked by her owner. It is not Skye's fault and, in experienced hands, we are confident that she will make a wonderful family pet. But she is too boisterous and strong for her current owner. They are now going to training sessions together but Skye is, frankly, beyond her capabilities.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with Skye, as a dog. She is not vicious and has never shown any kind of aggression. She is does jump up but she is said to be good with children and her little canine sibling and cats. She is a kind dog. She has just never been told that unwanted behaviours are unacceptable. Or worse, if she has, this has not been enforced. She has few boundaries, other than those of her own good nature.

When out walking, Skye pulls on the lead. She is aggressive towards other dogs and traffic and shows signs of being stressed. She does settle down in relation to other dogs st training sessions however, eventually. Both of these behaviours could be addressed by an experienced owner, willing to take her back to basics and begin training again from first principles.

In the home , frankly, Skye is bad mannered. She will mug for food, beg at the table, jump up at visitors and she generally does as she likes. Having said that she has got away with so much, her dominance has never turned into bullying or aggressive behaviour. How fortunate is that?

I believe that this indicates that she is basically a sweet natured girl, who has been allowed far too much leeway and not given enough 'tough love'. She would thrive in an experienced home, knowing that she did not need to take charge. Are you up to taking on the Skye challenge? You will need to be a loving but firm leader and to have some physical strength, initially, to cope with this adorable delinquent.
