Sapphire - Exeter

Sapphire is probably one of the most difficult dogs that we have been asked to help. Her problems are not of her own making as she has lived in a home where alcoholism and domestic violence were the norms which have severely traumatised her. She will require a special home - an adult only home preferably with a very big garden or land where she can just mooch around and not have to be in contact with any other strange dogs or children. She may be able to live with a calm laid back male dog with a careful introduction.

Sapphire is 11 years old, she is not spayed and is currently in season.

She hates most other dogs and is only walked away from the local road in isolated fields where there are no other dogs and where there is only one way in and out so her owner can keep control. She has previously lived briefly with another dog and is OK if the dog is calm and laid back following careful introduction.

Our volunteer took her for a walk and found her to be very strong on the lead although showing signs of arthritis in her hips. She pulled even stronger when she saw another dog and barked and lunged at a dog behind a gate.

Her carer has mental and other health issues and although there is an injunction against her drug addict partner to stay away, he still comes round! The dog belongs to the partner but he is incapable of caring for her so the lady owner wants to rehome Sapphire to break all ties.

The owner doesn't want Sapphire to go into kennels, this concerns her greatly as she thinks the stress would kill her.

In the car, Sapphire barks at people and she doesn't like Hi-Viz clothing.

She barks when left alone and needs to be kept downstairs as she has messed upstairs when left alone.

She doesn't like cats or young children either as they worry her.

Poor sapphire hasn't got much going for her and it's not her fault, she is a victim of circumstance.

She is going to be difficult to rehome because of what has happened to her but nice quiet adult home with a big garden would be perfect for her where she could relax and chill.

Sapphire is such a pretty girl
