Sandy - Newcastle

Sandy - Newcastle

Sandy is a German Shepherd cross.    He is a lovely dog, but his past history of abuse has left him highly anxious, especially around strangers. His current owner has worked really hard on building Sandy's confidence and he clearly loves her very much and is happy and relaxed in her care. He wasnt sure about our volunteer within the home and sat quietly near his mum, however outside on the walk he was fine and once back home he was happy to be fussed, which shows it shouldnt take long to make friends with Sandy.

Unfortunately his owner’s health has deteriorated and she can no longer exercise him.   She really doesn’t want to part with him but recognises that she’s not looking after him properly and that loving him isn’t enough.  Sandy is very strong on the lead and currently on a normal collar and lead where he is pulling really hard. He is also reactive to other dogs and will try and strain to them. Therefore going forward a change to a head collar and general lead work/recall will be needed. Our volunteer found him to be a lovely dog who has a lot of love to give, but needs an experienced, patient owner who can build up his confidence.
