River

River has been with us for 18 months and came originally with her daughter Roxy from a breeder. Roxy was adopted at the start of 2019 by a lovely family and we wanted to concentrate on Rivers needs alone feeling and considering ourselves to be very lucky failed fosterers. Unfortunately due to my health issues and a recent incident with another dog * full details will be given to prospective adopters* we have had to come to the heart breaking conclusion that we can no longer give River the training she needs and the home she deserves. In the house, River is clean, rarely barks, has lovely manners though is very cheeky and is the sweetest and funniest girl you could meet.

She loves her babies (teds) and belly rubs, carrots, company when eating, the snow and getting dried!! To name but a few. She loves the cats but will run if they run so dog savvy cats only. River knows some commands but also knows making you laugh gets her treats!!

River doesn’t like fireworks, small outdoor spaces – especially around blocks of garages, wearing a head collar or getting her ears cleaned but she will tolerate it with chicken pieces! River is neither food nor toy orientated outside but responds so well to human interaction.

Unfortunately, due to a complete lack of training and socialisation for the first four years of her life, River finds outside stressful still and is reactive to dogs and occasionally some humans. However within this, on careful introduction to smaller dogs, she has been fine. Since the incident however, she hasn’t been around any dogs but that is due to my issues not hers. She is currently muzzled and walked with a double lead when out.

River is a wander, zigzag and sniff girl as opposed to a ten mile hike kind of dog and is very vocal in the car, although this continues to be a work in progress. She is a beautiful, sweet and loving girl who deserves more than we are able to give her.

Any potential adopters should be breed / fear reactive savvy and be prepared to continue and develop Rivers socialisation and training as a priority.
