Raven - Doncaster

Update September 2018: RAVISHING RAVEN has been adopted.

May I introduce the most ravishing Raven, a Caucasian Shepherd. It is clear from her photos that she is a lovely girl. But what makes Raven quite unique is her charming, joyful personality. And this is not a breed associated with gaiety! Caucasians can be dour and standoffish. Not for Raven. She is a bit of a tart, really. She will wriggle and cavort with joy at meeting anyone and will get down for a tummy rub without any prompting. She is a delight and a firm kennel favourite.

This is all the more surprising as Raven did not have an easy early life. She was picked up roaming the streets with her brother. Their coats were in a terrible matted state. Who knows what other neglect she endured Raven served her time in the pound and then was adopted by GSDR. We are now looking for a forever home for this lovely girl, but there will be some broken hearts at the kennels when she goes. She is very friendly with all humans and a favourite with the staff, who care for her.

Raven is not dog aggressive, as such, however, due to her unfortunate life experiences, she has not had socialization training. She has been dog tested thoroughly and was found to be completely friendly then. But the socialization has not been continuous and we cannot vouch for her with small dogs especially. She is big and enthusiastic and wants to play. She needs to learn to 'turn down the dial'. Any experienced owner will be well able to work with this. She has no malice and is basically a friendly girl who wants to please.

As a Caucasian Shepherd, she would need a rural area where there is a large secured garden or land. She currently runs free in an enclosed area where the fence is slightly less than six feet. She makes no move to try to escape, even though she is a mighty fine jumper. Caucasian Shepherds are a magnificent breed but this is not the type of dog for everyone. They are known for their strong guarding instincts and they are strong! She would need to be lead walked at all times outside and security precautions taken. Did I say she is strong?

We do know that Raven takes to a domestic setting with huge enjoyment. She is very people orientated and would love her own family. Amazingly, she behaves impeccably in a domestic setting. She was dog tested in one and is fine with confined space and house rules, much to our amazement. She just loves to be loved.
