Zak - Prestatyn

This handsome boy is Zak a castrated boy who will be 5 in August 2019.

Zak lives with children over 12 and he lives with another dog with whom he is fine. He does bark at dogs outside the house but he is rarely walked because his owner has fibromyalgia. He has never been off lead!

Zak was dog reactive and people reactive as a pup. He went to Leahurst because of reactivity and behavioural problems from 10months of age until 2 years of age. He is now fine with people but still barks at other dogs.

With people, he doesn't bark but is very nervous so as a precaution a muzzle is put on him for strangers and then taken off when he feels confident He does not jump up or nip but may bark once or twice when the visitor is leaving.

When our volunteer met at his home, he never barked but entered the room with a muzzle on. His owners advised her that he is nervous and so as a precaution and for him to get the trust this is why he had it on. After 5 minutes his muzzle came off and he came over to her. He was very gentle and took a few treats from her. Loves cheese and actually took cheese out of his owner's mouth.

Our volunteer walked him on the lead and he walked well and didn't pull at all. His owner advised her that he hadn't been walked for a few weeks because of her health. Our volunteer asked him to sit and give a paw which he did. They passed a number of people out on the walk and he took no notice of them at all. Unfortunately, they never came across any dogs so she couldn't see his reactivity to them.
Zak loves lots of fuss and attention and reassurance, he wants to be with company and doesn't want to miss out. He loves his ears tickled, likes to
play ball and loves to play in water, hence he has his own paddling pool

He loves to play ball in the garden and loves running around, he also loves the beach and playing in the water.

Although he has lived with springador all his life she was 3 years of age when he arrived. There have been no problems with the two however our volunteer feels Zak needs to be an only dog to help him become more confident as well as learn to socialise with strange dogs.

Is Zak the one for you?
