MAX - MILTON KEYNES

This young boy has been in kennels for far too long.

He was surrendered to GSDR by an old couple who had bought him as a puppy and had kept him in a conservatory because they were scared of him. he spent a year in a kennels in Wales before he was moved to Cirencester. When he arrived he seemed absolutely delightful. His back legs were a little weak but he hadn't been out of a kennel in nearly a year. Over time his personality started to come through and you can tell that very little training had been put into this boy. Intelligent and bored is not a good mixture. Having had to fend for himself for so long he will sense a weak link. He definitely prefers men to women.

Max requires experienced, confident but calm-assertive owner that understands the breed and has the time to spend training and rehabilitating him from kennel life. We also think that someone on hteir own would be preferable. He is an intelligent dog but is sensitive so can be nervous and reactive if challenged but responds extremely well to positive training methods using redirection techniques with toys, food and praise.  He is an extremely intelligent dog who learns quickly and is responsive to training.

Max will need to live in an adult-only home and possibly as an only dog. Although he gets on with other dogs out of the home a concern is that there may be the possibility that if Max lived with another dog that has a nervous disposition or lower energy than him that Max may react in a either a dominant or protective state, making his behaviour worse.

When he gets to know you he really is the loveliest boy but it may take a while for him to build that trust. Please don't give up at the first hurdle, like most rescues he is not perfect but in the right home he  will excel.

He REALLY does deserve a chance, kennels is no place for a dog.
