Maggie - South Yorks

Maggie needed our help urgently, she had been left home alone with another dog and a neighbour was concerned for their welfare.  A well known rescue was called, removed the other Shep as poorly and didn’t attempt to get Maggie at that point as she was very vocal. We were concerned as we were informed that if they went back for her she would more than likely be PTS, due to her behaviour. We organised and got Maggie the next day, and she is now happy under our care and being treated like a queen.

On first meeting Maggie she will give a bark but will only take a few treats and being a confident person and then she’ll accept you straight away.

When Maggie first came into Rescue, her coat was filthy and not being brushed for a long time. She was very much over weight but this was because she was not getting out for a walk,  she was left to toilet in the home. However, she does not toilet in her kennel and will wait till she goes out for her  several walks a day to relieve herself.

Maggie does become vocal and excited around dogs, but once you’ve been out for 10 or so minutes she will settle down and walk close to them. She is quiet strong on the lead and a good weight so does pull a bit. She has lived with another dog, and although we haven’t had her off lead with another dog she doesn’t show any signs of aggression.

I did meet up with her first owner as he had to rehome her due to losing his home, he did say that she had been ok with dogs in the past but you just had to be firm with commands.

We would not rehome Maggie with small children as no history, although she would be okay with teenagers upwards.
