Lucca - West Yorks

To all my potential adopters, Hi My name is Lucca I am 15 months old. Well, what a day I have had. I went out with my mum and when we got home I noted a different car on my street and I saw a stranger get out of it, then my mum put me behind our tall metal gate that leads up the side of our house. He came closer and closer to my mum and I heard him say ‘hi i am Chris from GSDR” . I then started barking loud at the man, but he was strange, he did not run away or stare at me, he just bounced a piece of liver off my nose, so I just went and found the liver. He then threw me another piece and, wow, they were so tasty. He told me to sit, so I did and he then said down, so I did that too and I got another piece of liver while he stood close to my gate so I could smell him. I had stopped barking, hoping he would give me another treat, he didn’t, he just talked to mum. He then went to the front door and my mum came past me in the back door closing it behind her. Next thing I knew was the door opening and my mum letting me in the house. There was a big figure in black in the hallway, so I charged at him barking, and he just stood still!! My mum corrected me and told me to lay down, so I thought I will surprise him this time, and I charged him again barking and he did not move this time either. I could tell my mum was not happy and she made me lay down. He carried on talking to mum and he did not say a word to me, he was strange. Then, because I was quiet, he gave me a piece of liver - yay - and from then on I got treats from him when I was quiet and down. I did nudge his arm a few times, but I got nothing for that. I had a good sniff around him, he smelled of lots of dogs. Chris then asked for me to have my muzzle on and he went out with me on a slip lead. He corrected me once when I started to pull him then I realised he is something different. he told me down , then sit so I did and off we went on a walk. I thought I’d better walk like I know how to cos he won't take prisoners. He knows what I can do, mum shows him a video of me working - bad mum. So we went for a walk on a loose slip lead and Idid everything he asked. He also walked within 2 meters of strangers and I did not flinch, I just followed him, then we went home and he showed mum how to use the slip lead correctly. He then left. You know what the cheeky bugger did?? he left by my gate! I did not react at all after my first few attempted charges, (don’t tell him but he was not such a strange man i could understand what he wanted from me and he was not a threat ) :-)

I found Lucca a big 15month old baby that needs rules and boundaries, firm but fair rules that he can work with. He needs stimulation/ working and he would probably do well at obedience training. He is a young dog and I feel that he is just pushing boundaries that need pulling in before it is to late. He seems a friendly dog that prefers to stay out side once he has checked you out. He has lunged at a person and ripped their coat and caught his fang on their arm, but no damage was caused to the human. This just a shaken up owner. I would not recommend kids because he has never had them around him. He does not seem to want to play, but I have seen a video of him off lead and lolloping about, when he was meant to be training doing heel work. I have been told he can be aggressive towards other dogs on lead but off lead it sounds like he is fine once he gets to know them. I think pack walks would do him good to get his confidence up with other dogs, when I walked him he soon got in line heeling and following basic commands. I also walked him near 3 humans and he had no reaction at all, his focus was to follow me and my commands. Lucca needs a leader he can follow and trust, so he does not have to climb the ladder and become the leader, before it is to late. He needs someone that knows GSD well and can get him over his boisterous years.
