Bear - Newport

This lovely chap is Bear who is a 6-year-old neutered dog.

When our volunteers arrived he gave them a lovely welcome and wanted to play ball and give kisses. He loves his toys and catching his ball when thrown

In his home amongst adults, he is happy and contented. In the home, there is a toddler and although Bear loves her, now that she is toddling he has become wary of her when she comes towards him and he gives a nervous warning. He also gives this warning to certain dogs he sees outside.

Bear is very loyal and guarding of his owner and outside of the home, he is very protective of her.

Bear doesn't like being touched below his neck after an incident at the vets where he was shaved to take blood tests after he accidentally ingested xylitol.

Since then he has been to the vets and had vaccinations etc and has been fine with that.

Our volunteer took him for a walk and initially, he pulled with excitement but then settled down and walked nicely after that.

Bear is a very much loved family pet and he is being reluctantly rehomed because having a young toddler around is stressing him.

Our volunteer found him to be a very happy, healthy boy with a very waggy tail.

We think Bear would suit an adult only home or at least one without very young, small children.

With an experienced owner he would be a lovely addition to the home as long as they keep in mind the issue of having under his neck touched and that under certain conditions he has strong guarding instincts when outside with his chosen person

Bear loves to play with his ball.

Bear the gsd needs a new home urgently
