Axel - Co Durham

REHOMED

Axel is a big bouncy dog who can be a little excitable.    He came into rescue having not been socialised much so that is something that needs to continue to be worked on with him.   He is reactive towards other dogs epsecially if they react initially.      Axel has been in foster for a few months and is making progress especially with his mouthing.   His foster mum says :

I’m such a handsome boy I always gets lots of attention when I’m out and about or when new people visit my foster home but i’m not always comfortable with strangers approaching me unless they’ve been properly introduced, then it’s cuddle time!

I can get a little frightened of strange noises and really don’t the thing that she uses to dry her hair or clean my biscuit crumbs off the floor. Those silly humans try distracting me with treats and my ball so it’s not so scary and I can handle the mop, the iron and the printer now – yay me!

My foster Mum is teaching me good manners as I like to jump up or use my mouth when I get excited or want attention (ok, so I like a LOT of attention haha). She says I’m a work in progress but that I’ve learned loads already and am becoming a much better behaved boy but I may be a bit much for smaller children.

So let’s get to the important stuff about me. I love chew toys, brain toys, any rope or cuddly toy that I can destroy (ok so pretty much every type of toy – not fussy at all!), my personal best is around 10 mins for complete destruction of a new toy but I’m only a baby still so if you give me lots of lovely things to chew I’ll never chew anything important, I promise.

I’m cage trained at night (well providing there’s a dentastix waiting for me anyway) and sometimes I’d rather eat my kibble from a toy or the floor than my bowl (weird I know but hey everyone’s different right?). I love to walk for miles or run around chasing my ball on my long line. I know basic commands like sit, paw, down and wait, but I’m a very clever boy so can easily learn lots more!

We are looking for a home for Axel which will give him confidence out and about so are looking for an experienced confident GSD owner who isn't going to be fazed by any reactivity but will calmly build his confidence.
