A local dog rescue organisation has just launched a major campaign to raise funds for a young German Shepherd rescue dog who, because of untreated injuries, has a fused jaw and will need major corrective surgery that will cost 1000’s of pounds.

A spokesperson for DogWatchUK, a voluntary group applying for Charity status that helps local rescues and dog owners, told the Solihull News that they rescued this dog from a midlands pound severely underweight and unable to eat, drink or breath properly.

A facial injury caused by blunt force trauma was left untreated for most of his life and was left by the breeders or previous owners to grow without the benefit of corrective surgery.

“Our volunteers have been appalled by the level of suffering this dog has had to endure. None of us can understand how he has survived to this age and why previous owners didn’t try to help him. It would have been kinder to put him to sleep if the owners couldn’t afford the veterinary expenses, but he has just been left in this poor condition”.

At present he is comfortable in foster care, and his meals are being presented as mushy as possible to help him take food in and to regain the weight he desperately needs for an operation to take place. At the moment he weighs just half his recommended body weight.

The dog Simba, who is very friendly despite his health problem, will need extensive reconstruction around the jaw area and it is hoped that this work can be carried out locally by The Willows Veterinary Practice in Shirley.

DogWatchUK is appealing for donations to the “Simba Appeal” and for people to help by attending planned events to raise money for his veterinary expenses or by offering raffle prizes or other gifts in kind.

The first event, a Race Night, will take place on 7th October at Marston Green Parish Hall and tickets are £6 including food.
