Ritchie - Newport

This lovely boy is our Ritchie who is 8 years old but who has has never had a home of his own and lived a life of neglect and abuse by the hands of humans.

Ritchie was found as a puppy near a block of flats and a good hearted man fed him but the neighbours called the dogcatchers

He was caught and brought into the Public Shelter where the kind man came after him and got him out but he didn't have anywhere to take him so he was still living on those streets, fed and looked after by the man

The neighbours called the dogcatchers again and again he was caught and taken in the PS and the man came and set him free. This happened 4 times and it traumatised him, especially that he was captured with the neck pole and dragged

In the end the man didn't come after him anymore as it was no use since the neighbours were so mean, so he left him there.

Ritchie was then taken on by a rescue where there were over 300 dogs, very little money and many dogs kept together. Ritchie was attacked by other dogs over food and he suffered neck injuries so couldn't be rehomed until those were heeled.

He likes people although very wary of men which is not surprising given what the dog catchers did to him. We think young children might spook him so older children only. He is very scared of things that you have in your hand, he has been beaten and has lots of scars.

Ritchie is OK with female dogs but stand offish with males he will fight to defend himself if he has to. We are not sure about cats

Can you give this poor beaten, abused dog his first ever home where he can know love?
